The BargainMatch Team is at it again! This time they didn’t just add in even more awesome stores (about 200 new ones) to earn cash back from; they even took the site a step further. Now, instead of just being able to search for a product, you can also search for a store by name.

Before you take that the wrong way, I’ll explain. I have been in love with Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics and that love now resembles an obsession.
The nearest Lush locations are both over a thirty minute drive from my house, and that’s without traffic. While I have really enjoyed Lush’s products, the distance of their stores has posed a big problem for me keeping my love for them as fresh as their products are. I have a sneaker problem.
Whew, I said it. The fist step is admitting you have a problem.
My next confession, I love running but I am a very slow runner. I am so slow, that from a distance you might not be able to tell I’m running at all. I’ve also spent a lot of money on my little running hobby. Between race entries, heart rate monitors, knee braces, water bottles, Camelbaks, runner’s packs, compression clothing, dry-fit cushioned running socks, and many neutral cushioned running shoes, I have spent a pretty penny on the chance that any of the previously listed items might make me faster. News flash: they don’t!
Running a half marathon back in April completely drained me and I decided to take some time off from distance running. I was getting hurt, I wasn’t completing all of my training runs and I just wasn’t in love with running any more. I went back to the gym and only ran short distances. In the immediate future there are a few 5ks I want to run, and a sprint triathlon I signed up for (note to self: must learn how to swim before July 30th). I also need to start building distance again for the Miracle Miles 15k in September so that I can complete the 2011 Florida 15k Challenge.
Needless to say, all of these upcoming races have fueled my next purchase and challenge, tackling barefoot running in my new Vibram FiveFingers KomodoSport. Yes, these are those funny looking shoes that you have probably seen in the news and they do make me look like a ninja frog. However, running in them is a real treat, I’ve never felt so free and light.
I can now climb buildings like Spider-Man!
Barefoot running is a new fad and there are arguments for and against the benefits of barefoot running. My thoughts are, I was getting injured constantly with traditional running shoes and I figure trying something new won’t hurt and could possibly prevent me from getting injured in the future. One downside is you need to take some time to get used to them as you will be using different muscles in your legs and feet that you don’t normally use in regular running shoes. The first couple times I wore them my calves were screaming afterwards.
So far, my KomodoSports and I are really happy. I’m currently up to running a mile in them and I am planning on wearing them during the bike and running portion of my triathlon. I will keep you updated on my barefoot running progress; I can’t wait to build up my mileage in them.

Summer. Just the word itself conjures up images of beach picnics and lots of swimming pool time. Since I’m from Florida it also makes me think of hurricanes, but we can discuss that some other day! This summer I have vowed to stick to my budget since the heat always brings higher utility bills. One of the easiest ways to harness energy and save money is by using solar power.
Even though the summers are really hot here, my pool is in the shade for a good amount of the day. Because of this, the pool isn’t as warm as us Floridians need it to be except for a few months of the year. My hope is to increase the length of time the pool is warm with a solar blanket. And, to help keep the mosquitoes away while we are outside in the pool in the evenings, I ordered a few solar bug zapper lights.
It’s always fun to take our newly one-year-old Black Labrador to the dog beach. But sometimes it’s nice to take a break from the dose of Vitamin D under an umbrella and grab a cool snack and water from the cooler. While I love trips to the beach, it’s no picnic getting back into the car after it’s also spent a long day in the sun. With hopes to end this problem, or at least improve it a decent amount, I’m going to employ a solar-powered auto fan. So the same sun that creates the problem will also solve it!
